Adjunct Instructor of Applied Music

<dt><h2>Position Summary</h2></dt>
<dd><p><strong>Job Description: </strong><br>Applications are invited for multiple positions of Adjunct Professor of Applied Music in the Department of Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) to teach applied studio music lessons in multiple areas of performance expertise. Depending on an applicant’s strengths and experience, a range of courses could also be part of the teaching duties. Other duties include holding office hours, attending semesterly juries, providing up-to-date syllabi, reporting grades, and communicating with department faculty and administration.<br><br>Please note: These positions are based on need and availability. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Candidates should specify which instrument(s) they are qualified to provide instruction for. The VPA Department at YCP is currently recruiting for positions in <strong>String Bass Instruction</strong> and <strong>Virtual Instrument Instruction</strong>.<br><br><strong>Outcome: </strong><br></p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Successful candidate will instruct weekly lessons to individual students during the Fall and Spring semesters.</li></ul></dd>
<dt><h2>Essential Functions</h2></dt>
<dd><p></p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Set up a regular lesson schedule and instruct weekly lessons within the semester session dates.</li><li>Develop a course syllabus according to departmental guidelines.</li><li>Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.</li><li>Maintain regular office hours and participate in studio classes, student recitals, and end-of-semester juries.</li><li>Submit semester onset attendance verification reports, mid-semester progress reports, and final grades according to college regulations.</li><li>Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty to build and maintain the music program.</li><li>Support student performances at music events where possible.</li></ul></dd>
<dt><h2>Experience and Education Required</h2></dt>
<dd><p></p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li><strong>Educational Qualifications:</strong><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Masters or Doctoral degree in music performance preferred, bachelors in a music field is required.</li></ul></li><li><strong>Experience:</strong><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Teaching experience at the college level is highly preferred, including experience gained while in graduate school.</li><li>Professional performance experience in the field is expected.</li></ul></li></ul></dd>

<dd><p></p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li><strong>Skills:</strong><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Excellent interpersonal, observational, and communication skills.</li><li>Strong organizational and analytical abilities.</li><li>Patience, empathy, and the ability to engage with students from diverse backgrounds.</li></ul></li></ul></dd>
